Local sources reported extortion operations carried out by Houthi militia points in Al-Bayda governorate, aimed at robbing travelers' money on the main road leading to the liberated governorates.

It explained that travelers going towards the liberated areas and Saudi Arabia and returning from them towards the Houthi-controlled areas are subject to blackmailing the security point of the Houthi militia in the Al-Tafa District before the Afar customs port.

According to the sources, Houthi elements, including Alawi Al-Raqibi, asked for the passports of the expatriates passing through the point, then accused them of being "military with mercenaries" or belonging to ISIS, then gave them the choice between imprisonment or release in exchange for sums of money.

The sources confirmed that a number of travelers, especially expatriates, are victims of this extortion, as they are forced to pay large sums of money to avoid being arrested by the militia.

The sources indicated that the point members also receive money from citizens in exchange for the arrest of travelers due to personal disputes.

She pointed out that the freedom of victims in the directorate's detention centers is restricted under the pretext of investigation and gathering of evidence, and they are only released after large sums of money are paid.
