Conflicts between the fronts of Istanbul and London.. Setbacks split the Muslim Brotherhood
English - Sunday 31 July 2022 الساعة 06:56 pmThe conflict escalated between the two fronts of the Brotherhood in Istanbul and London, over the group's leadership, influence and money, using all available means to destroy each other.
The frantic conflict emerged more clearly, after decisions to dismiss leaders on both fronts, and mutual accusations of employment, breach of trust and embezzlement of the organization's funds, and spread to media exchanges on websites and on social media.
Although a year has passed since the beginning of the crisis between the two heads of the group, neither of them was able to resolve his leadership of the Brotherhood, which caused the organization to lose many of the elements of its continuity after splitting it into two halves, and disintegrating it organizationally.
Mahmud Hussein, the group's former secretary, the Istanbul Front, chose to move through cyberspace, defending his group and accusing the other group. While Ibrahim Munir, Deputy Guide and Chargé d'Affairs of the London Front, chose to move between the Brotherhood and complete the formation of the General Shura Council, and his supporters carried out many secret meetings.
On Thursday, the Istanbul Front issued a statement accusing the "Munir" front of spreading sedition and divisions within the group's ranks, and of seeking to impede the work of the Brotherhood, and impede their progress, as they claimed.
The Istanbul Front accused "Munir's Front" of being behind "the spread of many outrageous behaviors, and the continuation of many practices that conflict with the morals of preachers and reformers," according to the statement.
The Istanbul Front’s statement came at a time when the supporters of the London Front, led by Ibrahim Munir, the deputy guide and charge d’affaires, were moving in various directions. Internally, they held a series of meetings to complete the organization’s committees and councils, such as: the “General Shura Council,” which included new leaders from the Brotherhood.
Prior to the statement, the Istanbul Front had decided to exempt Ibrahim Munir from the Brotherhood, as well as to dismiss Ahmed Shousha, Osama Suleiman, Helmy Al-Jazzar, Abdullah Al-Nahhas, Muhammad Al-Behairi, Muhammad Al-Desouki, Muhammad Jamal Heshmat, Muhammad Taher Namir, Muhammad Abdul-Muti Al-Jazzar, Mahmoud Al-Ibiari, Mohi Al-Zayt, Musaad Al-Zayni and Najib Al-Zarif.
The Brotherhood is living in an unprecedented state of cleavage between old leaders who decided their position in favor of Mounir, the acting guide of the group, in exchange for the escalation of the front of former Secretary-General Mahmoud Hussein, the confrontation, by announcing the dismissal of the acting guide through a Shura Council whose decisions are challenged in the legitimacy of his decisions.
This conflict comes at a time when the group is going through a critical time. The group that the two sides have been competing with has been suffering for ten years from several crises at the regional and local levels, which began with a broad popular rejection represented in the June 30, 2013 revolution, which ended its rule over Egypt, then followed by defeats in Libya, Morocco, Tunisia and Sudan and it has been designated in many Arab countries as a terrorist organization.
