Media affiliated with the Houthi militia reported, on Wednesday, that the Foreign Minister of the unrecognized Sanaa government, Hisham Sharaf Abdullah, met the German ambassador to Yemen, Hubert Yeager.
Saba news agency, in its Houthi version, said that Sharaf "discussed with the German ambassador the deteriorating humanitarian situation in Yemen and possible ways to deal with the current situation," without specifying the location and nature of the meeting.
This is the first official meeting between a European diplomat and an official in the Houthi government, since all diplomatic missions accredited to Yemen left the country after the Houthi militia invaded the capital, Sanaa, by force of arms in September 2022.
The agency quoted Sharaf as saying that the Houthi Supreme Political Council and their government "supported entering into a truce to achieve steps that would address the humanitarian situation and alleviate the suffering of millions of Yemeni people."
According to the Houthi sources, during the meeting with the German ambassador, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Sana'a government pointed out "the importance of working to complete confidence-building measures to reach a peaceful political settlement and sustainable peace."
Sharaf called on "the friendly German government to resume its activity in Sanaa in the way it desires, stressing Sana'a's readiness to provide all facilities, privileges and diplomatic immunities out of confidence." According to him.
According to the same source, the German ambassador stressed that the situation in Yemen occupies a place in the work of German foreign policy, noting that "a peaceful political solution is the only solution and through it the humanitarian situation will be addressed."
