Egypt and Yemen... A comparison reveals the worst service and the most expensive price offered to Yemenis
English - Saturday 23 July 2022 الساعة 03:53 pmFor more than a week, a fierce campaign launched by Egyptians on social media against telecom companies to demand better service continues under the hashtag (#Unlimited_Internet_Egypt).
The campaign, which gained great momentum after some celebrities and artists joined it, is summarized in its demands to cancel the so-called "monthly packages" on the Internet and provide unlimited service, with complaints of high costs.
The Egyptians' attack focused on the government communications company "WE", which provides Internet services in various forms, recalling previous campaigns organized by activists during the past years against the Yemeni telecom company "Yemen Net", which monopolizes the Internet service in Yemen.
In comparison with what the two companies offer, it becomes clear the big difference in the level of service in terms of quality and price. Among the services provided by the Egyptian company is the terrestrial internet service with speeds of between 30-200 megabytes per second and through multiple packages, including Super packages, which speed up to 30 megabytes per second. .
The lowest package gives you a balance of 140 GB for only 120 Egyptian pounds, which is equivalent to 7.5 dollars, and the highest package gives you a balance of 600 GB for only 500 Egyptian pounds, which is equivalent to 26 dollars.
While what YemenNet offers of terrestrial Internet service "DSL", the maximum speed is only 8 megabytes, and the package that gives you a balance of 600 gigabytes costs 57,000 riyals, or about 103 US dollars (according to the exchange rate of Sana'a).
As for the best service that "Yemen Net" boasts about, it is "internet via optical fibers" or what is known as "Fiber", but it says that it is available in some places in Sana'a only, and the maximum speed is 100 MB / s, and the maximum package is a download package of "1 TB" and at 167 thousand riyals per month, about 300 US dollars.
While Telecom Egypt offers "we" with the package any "1 terabyte" download package, but with a stronger Internet, up to 200 megabytes, for 1,000 Egyptian pounds, or about 52 dollars per month only.
By comparing what this Egyptian company offers with what Aden Net 4G Internet offers, through a home device “router”, the Egyptian company’s packages start from 150 Egyptian pounds, or about $8 per month, for a balance of 40 gigabytes, while this package is offered by Aden. Net at a lower price, which is 6 thousand riyals, or about 6 dollars (according to the exchange rate in Aden), but the difference is clear in the amount of speeds offered between the two companies.
Aden Net confirms on its official website that its maximum speed is 20 megabytes (in fact, it does not currently exceed 10 megabytes in the best coverage areas), while the Egyptian company says that its service can operate up to 32 devices at the same time and the maximum speed is 150 megabytes / sec. .
In addition to this, Aden Net Company is currently suffering from a significant deterioration in its services despite the limited subscribers and in a narrow scope, which is the city of Aden, and its failure four years ago to expand its services to all residents of the city and from it to outside Aden.
In the context of comparisons, the 4G packages provided by the Egyptian Company for Mobile Phones can be compared with what Yemeni companies provide for this service, including the company (YOU), which offers various packages, the largest of which is the 100 GB package, at a monthly amount of 25,000 Yemeni riyals, or about $45.
While the Egyptian company offers the same package, but at a lower price, which is 450 pounds, or about 23 dollars only, with the advantage that the validity of the package is 3 months, with a 50% discount on browsing social networking sites as well as the most famous electronic games.
Noting that the speed of the 4G provided by the Egyptian company and the rest of the companies in Egypt for mobile phones ranges between 30-100 MB / sec, while the 4G provided by Yemeni companies has not yet reached at its best to 20 MB.
A quick comparison reveals the extent of the suffering that Yemenis have incurred for years with the Internet service and the poor and very poor service provided to it by telecom companies at the most expensive price.
