On Friday, the city of Ataq, the capital of Shabwa governorate, witnessed security tension after limited clashes between the Shabwa Defense Forces (formerly the Shabwa Elite) and a security point belonging to the Special Forces, which resulted in injuries.
According to local sources, the elements of the electricity point in the city of Ataq, affiliated with the Special Forces, tried to prevent the passage of a military group of the Shabwa Defense Forces on Friday afternoon, which resulted in a verbal altercation between the two parties.
It was added that the elements of the point started shooting at the Shabwa defense group, to prevent it from passing through the point, as a result of which two soldiers from the Shabwa Defense Forces were injured, in addition to the injury of a woman who was passing by the point during the clash.
The sources said that after the incident, members and crews of the Special Forces were deployed inside the city and at its entrances, which was matched by a similar deployment by the Shabwa Defense Forces in the city, amid fears of the residents of the outbreak of comprehensive confrontations between the two parties.
The incident came after news circulated by Brotherhood-affiliated media outlets that the Shabwa Defense Forces, stationed in the western ring road in Ataq, attempted to assassinate Colonel Ahmed Lashqim, commander of the emergency battalion in the 30th Brigade, led by Brigadier General Aziz Al-Atiqi, commander of the Ataq axis.
However, security sources accused the leadership of the Special Forces, led by the Brotherhood's Abed Rabbo Kaab, of trying to stir up the situation in Shabwa to thwart the comprehensive security campaign to secure Ataq, which is implemented by the Shabwa Defense Forces with the support of the forces of the Southern Giants Brigades and Public Security under the directives of the governorate's governor and head of the security committee Awad bin Al-Wazir Al-Awlaki.
The sources accused the command of the Special Forces of trying to provoke the Shabwa Defense Forces and the Giants' forces to try to blow up the situation in Shabwa, noting what the Special Forces' electricity point had done last Wednesday of provocation against the Giants' forces.
Where the elements of the point intercepted a group led by one of the leaders of the 12th Brigade Giants and prevented them from passing, which led to the deployment of forces affiliated with the giants in the vicinity of the point, so that the situation was remedied after the intervention of security and military leaders.
These incidents prompted leaders, activists, and journalists from the province to demand the governor quickly address the security file and change the command of the Special Forces to end Brotherhood influence and prevent any attempts to tamper and create security chaos.
