Health refuses to operate Aden General Hospital
English - Tuesday 05 July 2022 الساعة 09:15 amA source in the company executing the project to rehabilitate Aden General Hospital revealed that the Ministry of Public Health and Population refused to receive and operate the hospital, which was completed nine months ago.
The source told "NewsYemen" that the Ministry of Health refused to receive and operate the hospital, on the grounds that it was unable to provide the hospital's operational budget, and asked the Saudi side to budget for its operation of at least ten years.
The cost of the project to rehabilitate Aden General Hospital, which has been out of readiness since 2004, amounted to about $26 million, funded by the Saudi Development Fund and supervised by the Saudi Development and Reconstruction Program for Yemen.
The source explained that the Ministry of Health submitted to the Saudi program an offer to hand over Aden Hospital to a company that will manage and operate it, at the expense of Saudi Arabia, similar to the Salam Hospital in Saada Governorate and the Saudi Hospital in Hajjah Governorate, which Saudi Arabia has occupied since their establishment.
The source confirmed that the Saudi program, which has supervised the rehabilitation work of the hospital over the past four years, put forward an offer to operate the hospital to international companies, and three companies, one of them Malaysian, one Bulgarian, and the third one Saudi, submitted a proposal.
The source indicated that the Saudi company that submitted an offer to operate Aden Hospital is Al-Saad Group for Investment and Development, which currently operates Al Salam Hospital in Saada and the Saudi Hospital in Hajjah Governorate, expecting it to win the management and operation of Aden General Hospital.
Aden General Hospital is considered a major leap for the health sector in the capital, Aden and the neighboring governorates, and the most advanced in the country, and it contains the latest equipment and medical devices in all departments, especially the cardiology center, which saves citizens from avoiding the hardship of traveling abroad.
The rehabilitation project provided Aden Hospital with a power plant with a generating capacity of more than six megabytes, an incinerator for harmful waste, central air conditioning, improvement of facilities, expansion of clinics, restoration of buildings and elevators, in addition to communications and sewage works.
