Sisi: Navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab must be protected

 Egyptian President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi stressed the need to combine all efforts and intensify joint action to protect the security and freedom of navigation in the Red Sea, the Bab al-Mandab Strait, and the Arabian Gulf, stressing that "this vital issue is linked to regional and international security and stability."

In a speech during a joint press conference with the Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council, Dr. Rashad Al-Alimi, the Egyptian President stressed Egypt's firm and existing position to support the unity of the Yemeni state, its independence and territorial integrity, and support for its legitimate national institutions and efforts to achieve peace and security to achieve the interests of the Yemeni people.

He said: "Yemen has always been a prosperous metropolis, and a major gateway to Arabism and human civilization as a whole, and we in Egypt are confident that Yemen with the capabilities of its people, based on its ancient history, and the support of its brothers here in Egypt and in the Arab world, will quickly overcome its crisis, and return  to its essential, natural, stable, secure and prosperous location.

The Egyptian President indicated that his discussions with the Chairman of the Yemeni Presidential Leadership Council also dealt with the seriousness of the “Safir” oil reservoir crisis, the multifaceted threats it poses, and the need for concerted international efforts to solve this crisis as soon as possible by providing the necessary support and funding for the relevant UN plan."

He also stressed that the stability of Yemen is of paramount importance to Egypt and the entire Arab world, saying: We are keen to provide various aspects of support to the Yemeni brothers, especially in the field of training human cadres and providing medical and food aid.

He added: Today, during our discussions, I was keen to emphasize Egypt's firm position, which is based on the deep-rooted and complex historical relations that link the Egyptian and Yemeni peoples, with Egypt's support for the brotherly Yemeni people and for Yemeni legitimacy.  The security and stability of Yemen is of paramount importance to Egypt and the entire Arab world.

He affirmed Egypt's support for all efforts aimed at achieving peace in Yemen in accordance with the terms of reference of the Yemeni national dialogue, the Gulf initiative and its executive mechanisms, the results of the recent Yemeni consultations in "Riyadh", under the auspices of the Gulf Cooperation Council, and the relevant Security Council resolutions.

He renewed Egypt's welcome to the United Nations' announcement on June 2, 2022, of extending the armistice agreement in Yemen, appreciating "the efforts of the legitimate Yemeni government in respecting its obligations as stipulated in the agreement."

During his speech, the Egyptian President called on all parties to fully implement the terms of the agreement, as this represents a positive development that can be built upon to launch a comprehensive political process in Yemen.
