Aden, NewsYemen:

The United Nations Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced Thursday that the parties to the conflict in the country "accepted the United Nations proposal to renew the current armistice for an additional two months."

The international envoy said, in a statement, that the extension of the truce "will enter into force at the end of the current truce period, today, June 2, 2022 at 19:00 Yemen time, and that the truce was extended under the same terms as the original agreement, which entered into force for the first time on second of April 2022.

Grundberg expressed his gratitude to the international community for its support in implementing and renewing the armistice, and thanked in particular Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman, as well as members of the United Nations Security Council.

He also reiterated his appreciation to Egypt and Jordan for their support in facilitating the resumption of international commercial flights from Sana'a Airport.

And the renewal of the humanitarian truce considered that it "gave the parties a rare glimmer of hope for the Yemenis that ending this devastating conflict is possible."

The UN envoy is scheduled to start the next two days of a second round of talks between the Yemeni government and the Houthi militia to discuss lifting the siege of Taiz and opening roads.
