Popular meals in Hodeidah Governorate.. Famous foods with great taste

The "Al-Sabaliyah" market in the city of Al-Hodeidah is still present in the popular memory, as a place where the most delicious and delicious Tahami dishes are prepared.

What distinguishes that place, is the preparation of the “Fried Fish” meal, or what is called for short, “Fried fish”, a popular meal that consists of cooking fish pieces, inside earthen pots, with the addition of certain types of spices and spices, which makes it taste good,  does not resist.

The Tuhama Fattah is also one of the meals that are served in the popular restaurants in that famous market, in a unique way, which makes those who taste it keen to frequent that place, whenever they have the opportunity to visit that coastal governorate, but the arrival of the Houthi militia hindered access to that place.  The Bride of the Red Sea and its popular restaurants, especially road closures, and the prosecution of civilians on false charges.

The Tuhami fattah consists of two types, the first of which is bread prepared from millet grains, plus honey and cream, and the second fattah consists of bread prepared from millet grains also with meat in small pieces, in addition to the broth, and it is called “hariq”.

It is eaten alongside 'meat zumzom', which is another meal in which the meat is cooked in cardboard rolls coated with light metallic foil, in traditional ovens, made of clay.

Breakfast and dinner 

Inside a narrow alley in the old quarter of the Yemeni city of Khokha, a group of boys selling traditional foods sits, in a struggle march, passed down from generation to generation.

Among those meals that are sold as part of breakfast and dinner is “Al-Kabban”, which is a meal that consists mainly of ground “dager” grains, in addition to yogurt and flour from other types of grains, as well as a pinch of salt to modify its taste.

This meal is prepared by mixing the ingredients, with water, and placed on the fire, as it is stirred until maturity, and is served by adding a little ghee or sesame oil.

Smoked fish is one of the popular meals in Tihama. It is prepared from small baga fish, inside traditional ovens, and is served at breakfast and dinner, along with baladi cheese mixed with hot pepper.

Although fish prepared in this way is widespread in most Yemeni cities, smoked fish is limited to a certain type, which is the bagha, and only salt is added to its guts.

One of the most popular meals served in Yemeni coastal cities is "Al-Hanid", which is meat covered with thin aluminum sheets with the addition of spices that give it a special flavour.  But this meal, which is served during lunch, is not limited to Tihama, but rather in all Yemeni cities and perhaps the rest of the world.

There are lesser known Tihami meals, such as the mixture that is prepared from crushed potatoes, onions and garlic, or flour dough with other ingredients added, and is immersed in oil until it is cooked.

This meal is one of the foods that are eaten at breakfast time during the holy month of Ramadan.

Among the meals that have been adapted to remain Tihami, is Al Mutabbaq, which is eaten after mashing with the addition of yogurt, to become a good-tasting meal.

Although there are many popular meals such as ground meat, ghee and honey, "Fried" is still on the list of the most popular meals in Tihama, due to its wonderful taste.
