Attack on a cargo ship off the coast of Yemen

 A British military group that monitors waterways in the Middle East said Thursday that a ship had been attacked off the coast of Yemen in the Red Sea.

The Associated Press quoted the UK Maritime Trade Operations Group as saying that the attack took place on Thursday off the city of Hodeidah.

The US Navy's Fifth Fleet, based in the Middle East, did not immediately respond to a request for comment, the agency said.

The Saudi-led coalition has been supporting Yemeni legitimacy since March 2015 against the Iranian-backed Houthi rebels who control the Yemeni capital, Sanaa, and the port city of Hodeidah on the Red Sea.
