Aden, NewsYemen:

The Deputy Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations, Marwan Noman, said that two thousand children have been killed during their participation in the fighting in the ranks of the Houthi militia in the Marib Governorate (east of the country) since last February.

Noman added, at the high-level meeting on the protection of children in armed conflict during the Corona pandemic, in New York, that "the recent attack on Marib led to the death of nearly two thousand children recruited by the Houthi militia into its ranks."

He pointed out that "the Houthis have recruited more than 35,000 children since 2014, 17 percent of whom are under the age of 11, while 6,729 children are actively fighting on the militia fronts."

He warned of the danger of the Houthis' use of schools, mosques and summer camps to brainwash at least 60,000 children, train them and send them to the fronts.

The Deputy Permanent Representative of Yemen to the United Nations stressed "the importance of the international community's immediate action to stop the heinous crimes of the Houthis against children and the Yemeni people."

Last February, the European Union Mission to Yemen said that the year 2020 witnessed an alarming increase in the recruitment of children across the country, and called for condemning all violations against Yemeni children in light of the long conflict.
