The former head of the Public Authority for Environmental Protection in Yemen accused the "Green Dream" environmental platform of losing its credibility, expressing his surprise at the incorrect interpretations made in an investigation that included evaluation notes he sent to UNESCO in 2018 on the state of Socotra Island.
Dr. Abdel-Qader Al-Kharraz reiterated what was mentioned in the memos about the absence of any military operations by the Arab coalition on the Yemeni island, pointing out in a statement he posted on his Facebook account, on Monday, that there are parties behind the publication of the investigation platform, which claimed to threaten the ecosystem of Socotra with government complicity.
The Green Dream platform, which is interested in environmental issues, published on its website, on Monday, an investigation that claimed that the UAE had introduced uncontrolled construction on the island of Socotra from 2016 to 2020, which threatened the island's ecosystem. The government of President Hadi, with suspicious complicity.
The Realization of a Green Dream mentioned a memorandum issued by the Presidency of the Commission that denied the existence of a military operation on the island of Socotra, stressing that the Arab coalition had developed the capabilities of some institutions on the island, in response to an official memorandum sent by the World Heritage Committee WHC to UNESCO regarding information on military operations on the island.
Regarding this memorandum, Dr. Al-Kharraz explained in his statement, "It seems that 'Green Dream' does not distinguish between the concept of military operations and the presence of coalition forces. The coalition forces are present on much of the Yemeni land, and no one can deny that, and it came at the request of the Presidency of the Republic and with international approval."
Al-Kharraz added: "As for the military operations, it is known where they were taking place and where they are happening now in Marib, and it was not on the island of Socotra at that time (i.e. the time of the memorandum) published by a green dream, which is on January 8, 2018. Does a green dream want me to lie and say that there are operations Military?
Regarding the development operations in Socotra confirmed by the memorandum issued by him, the former head of the Environmental Protection Authority explained, "You cannot deny that the UAE and Saudi Arabia initially worked on development projects, including the Khalifa Hospital, as well as providing modern fishing boats with a capacity of one ton to dozens of fish associations in Socotra, which benefited the fishermen's segment and transferred their income. From 10,000 riyals per week to 100,000 riyals.
He stressed that "the humanitarian aid in that period 2018 is tangible, including what I mentioned, and this is important to mention, as it is a fact and cannot be denied, and it was also important for Socotra to remain on the heritage list. It must make clear that there is governmental interest in the requirements of services and projects on the island and that there is support that comes from sister countries, of course projects The coalition countries (Bin Salman Center, the Emirates Crescent and international organizations) and support on all Yemeni land.”
Dr. Abdul-Qader Al-Kharraz pointed out that his demand for the official in charge of the Saudi forces in Socotra to vacate the Environmental Protection Authority building and hand it over was the reason for his dismissal from the presidency of the authority by the decision of Prime Minister Maeen Abdul-Malik.
He talked about the existence of special goals for "Green Dream", wishing the website "to review itself and not fall into a position of lack of credibility and misinterpretation, and to address truly what is happening and what happened and evaluate the situation correctly."
At the conclusion of his statement, the former head of the Environmental Protection Authority affirmed that he retained his legal right to judicial follow-up to all those who offended him or published words about him and interpreted them according to his whims, calling on the Attorney General to open an investigation into what happened in Socotra since the beginning of its adoption in the Heritage List until now
