The US special envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, said that the continuation of military operations in Marib Governorate is not in the interest of peace and de-escalation in the country.
Lenderking added, in an interview with the Qatari Al-Jazeera channel, that "the humanitarian problems in Yemen cannot be resolved without a serious ceasefire."
Linder King explained that there is no clear goal or confirmed results that can be achieved in this war now, except for a further deterioration in the worsening humanitarian situation that has reached the brink of an abyss, which portends a catastrophe.
He said, "There is a reasonable and just proposal now for a ceasefire in Yemen by the United Nations, and it should be dealt with with high responsibility by the conflicting parties."
The US envoy pointed to the need to change the vision and approach of the Houthi group and its rigid position on the peace process.
He stressed the existence of a large international consensus on the necessity of putting an end to the Yemeni crisis file and stopping the war in it.
The UN proposals focus on a comprehensive ceasefire and easing of restrictions imposed on the port of Hodeidah and Sanaa International Airport.
The US envoy stated that he will again this week an official visit to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, coinciding with the visit of the United Nations envoy Martin Griffiths to it, where meetings will be held with the Saudi leadership and the concerned parties, as part of continuous efforts to resolve the Yemeni crisis and stop the war in the country.
On May 7, the US State Department said in an official statement: The Houthi militia missed a great opportunity to show its commitment to peace, in reference to the group’s representatives refusing to meet the UN envoy to Yemen Martin Griffiths in the Omani capital, Muscat.
On Sunday, US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken stressed the need to reach a peace agreement in Yemen, stressing that his country is striving to achieve this.
The US Secretary called on Iran to use its influence to push the Houthis to move constructively to end the war in Yemen.
