An international organization said, on Monday, that the first quarter of this year 2021 is the deadliest for Yemeni children in more than two years.
A report by the organization stated that there were five attacks on schools in Yemen during the month of March alone, which resulted in depriving about 30 thousand and 600 children from obtaining an education.
The report indicated that this is more than double the number of attacks on educational facilities, and it was reported in the last quarter of the last year 2020.
She pointed out that four schools in Taiz were subjected to artillery shelling last March, and those attacks killed 11 civilians, including four children, and an air strike hit a school in the capital, Sana'a.
The report indicated that the escalation of violence in areas such as Taiz led to the bloodiest quarter for children in nearly two years, as at least 50 children were killed and injured in the governorate from January to March of this year.
"Such attacks could lead to a new setback in the education of children in these areas for years to come, or even for the rest of their lives," the organization said.
While Javier Joubert, director of Save the Children, said attacks on schools not only endanger children's lives, but also destroy their dreams of a better life.
"Schools should be a safe haven for children, not a battlefield," he added, "blaming the warring parties and their international allies with the responsibility to protect these children and their futures."
He called on all parties to the conflict to stop attacks on schools and fully implement the ceasefire as soon as possible, in order to end violations of children's rights, work for a lasting and comprehensive peace and work towards a political solution.
