Al-Qaeda leader Qasim Al-Rimi was killed by a raid targeting a house in Marib

A US official announced, at dawn turday, the death of the terrorist leader of Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, Qasim Al-Rimi, in a raid by a US drone in the middle of last week.


The American newspaper, New York Times, quoted the American official as saying that “An American raid by a drone targeted the terrorist Qasim Al-Rimi, on Monday morning, while he was in a house in the village of Al-Hazmah in the isolation of Al Rashid Munif in the Directorate of Marib tribes of Ubaidah.


On the other hand, Al-Arabiya channel, quoting unidentified local sources, said that a drone , believed to be an American, targeted Friday evening a house in the Wadi Ubaidah district east of the Yemeni city of Marib, in which elements of the "Al-Qaeda" organization live.


 According to these sources, the house was rented by Al-Qaeda militants a week ago.


Those sources confirmed that Qasim al-Rimi, the leader of "AQAP" was killed in the raid.


 However, the sources added, "Other sources in Marib stated that the house that was targeted by the raid had already been rented by members of" Al Qaeda ", but it was not yet clear whether Qasim al-Rimi was among those targeted."


Who is Qasim Al-Rimi?


 “Qasim Abdo Muhammad Abkar” or “Qasim al-Rimi” or “Qasim al-Rami” and the nickname “Abu Hurairah al-San’ani”, was one of the prominent and well-known leaders in al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula, and was at the head of the wanted Arab and international for his involvement in terrorist acts.


Al-Rimi became the leader of "Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula" on June 16, 2015, to succeed Nasser al-Wahaishi, who was killed by a drone strike in the city of Mukalla, the capital of Hadramout Governorate, in eastern Yemen.


 On October 18, 2018, the US State Department announced that it would increase the value of the reward it would provide in exchange for information leading to al-Rimi's arrest from $ 5 million to $ 10 million.


Washington had listed al-Rimi's name on the terrorism list in May 2010 and froze his bank assets in the United States.


 Qassem Al-Rimi participated in the planning of several terrorist operations, including the bombing of the American destroyer "USS Cole", supervising the "Wadi Doan ambush", supervising the "Shibam bombing", and other terrorist attacks.
