The British Ministry of Defense submitted evidence to the United Nations confirming that Iran, through the Revolutionary Guards, continues to smuggle weapons to Yemen and violate Security Council Resolutions 2231 and 2140.

The UK government website published a statement from the Ministry of Defense about the information that was provided as evidence to the United Nations after a British naval ship seized quantities of Iranian weapons that were on their way to the Houthi militia in Yemen.

Key evidence provided by the UK is a commercial drone designed for reconnaissance activities By decoding the internal memory of the control units of unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), the UK Ministry of Defense discovered records of 22 test flights made at the IRGC Air Force headquarters and facility  The test is in western Tehran.

The drone was in the same shipment as a number of surface-to-air missiles and components for the Iranian Project 351 land-attack cruise missile.

This evidence indicates a direct link between the Iranian state and the smuggling of missile systems used by the Houthis to attack Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates.

According to a statement, the Royal Navy ship HMS Montrose managed, on two occasions in the year 2022, to confiscate Iranian weapons from speedboats run by smugglers in international waters in southern Iran.  And that among the weapons are surface-to-air missiles and engines for land-attack cruise missiles, which contradicts United Nations Security Council Resolutions 2231 and 2140 issued in 2015.

The British Ministry of Defense stated that the weapons were provided to United Nations representatives, who provided an assessment of the conflict in Yemen and Iranian nuclear activity.

The bans were noted in the UN Secretary-General's Report No. 2231 issued in December 2022 and are expected to appear in the soon-to-be-released annual report of Security Council Resolution No. 2140.

The government statement made it clear that the Royal Navy has a deployment to support maritime security operations in the Gulf of Oman.  The UK stands with its partners in the region and is committed to stemming the illegal flow of these weapons systems, as well as drug and human trafficking.

According to Defense Secretary Ben Wallace, the UK is committed to upholding international law and will continue to confront Iranian activity that contravenes UN Security Council resolutions and threatens peace around the world.

That's why we have a permanent Royal Navy deployment in the Gulf region, conduct vital maritime security operations and work to support a lasting peace in Yemen.

For his part, Minister of State for the Middle East Lord (Tariq) Ahmed said from Wimbledon: Once again, the Iranian regime confirms that it is carrying out reckless proliferation of weapons and destabilizing activity in the region.

According to the statement published on the British government's website, Iran's continued military support to the Houthis and continued violation of the arms embargo has increased conflict and undermined UN-led peace efforts, stressing that the United Kingdom will continue to work to protect the security of our partners and hold Iran accountable.
