Between Sana'a and Seiyun... the chaos of the Presidential Council provides life to Houthi
English - Sunday 15 January 2023 الساعة 03:30 pmWeeks after their abduction, the Houthi militia, Iran's arm in Yemen, broadcasted, on Wednesday, pictures of the first trial sessions of four of the most prominent influencers on social media, on charges that carry a death sentence, on the background of their criticism of the deteriorating living conditions in the areas they control.
On Wednesday, the Specialized Criminal Court, which is under Houthi control in Sana'a, held the first trial session of YouTube activists Ahmed Hajar, Mustafa Al-Momari, Ahmed Allaw, and Hammoud Al-Misbahi, on charges of "inciting people to chaos, taking to the streets, and storming ministries in a way that leads to serving aggression," in reference to the Arab coalition.
The pictures of the trial met with great interaction by Yemenis on social media, amid a sharp division in their view of the trial, between those who strongly condemn it for being evidence of the extent of the repression that the Houthi group has reached, and those who are skeptical about it given the positions of activists loyal to the group, and that it is just a play only for terrorism. society and prevent any popular movement against the group.
Far from the validity of both points of view, however, according to observers, they agree that the Houthi trial of the activists reflects the extent of fear among the Houthi group of any popular movement against it in its areas of control during the coming period.
Observers point out that the group's fears are due to the fall of the most important pretext it used to justify its plundering of Yemeni revenues and money, which is "war" or what it calls "confronting aggression", which has stopped since the announcement of the UN armistice that has been going on for more than 9 months.
They pointed out that the fall of the pretext of war raised the voices of citizens in the areas controlled by the Houthi group to talk about the fate of the looted revenues in light of the continued refusal of the Houthi authorities to pay salaries or provide any services in the areas under their control.
Observers believe that the factors for the popular explosion in the Houthi-controlled areas are available and increase with the continuation of the halt, but the group is betting on international pressure to force the legitimacy and the coalition to agree to its conditions for extending the armistice, especially the salary clause and handing it over to it from oil and gas revenues.
Where the group plans to transfer salaries to a new paper to subjugate citizens in its areas of control by spending it on its loyalists, and this also allows it to continue plundering revenues in its areas of control.
Observers confirm that the scene of chaos, which still rules the political and economic situation in the liberated areas as a result of the state of conflict within the forces that make up the Presidential Leadership Council, remains the most important card of the Houthi group to terrorize society in its areas of control from any popular movement against it.
This is indicated by the activity of some Houthi leaders on social networking sites during the past days, and their focus on the differences within the components of the Presidency Council, over more than one file, especially the tense situation that the regions of Wadi Hadramout are currently experiencing, against the background of the popular demands to remove the forces of the first military region.
Tension that observers consider as evidence of the failure of the Presidential Leadership Council to resolve important files and normalize conditions in the liberated governorates, as an important goal that will undermine the most important factors on which the Houthi group relies to maintain its grip on the northern governorates.
