Monitoring a package of projects during 2022.. The UAE is an ally of construction and development in Shabwa

With the advent of the new year 2023, the United Arab Emirates launched a package of new development projects in Yemen, in continuation of the humanitarian efforts provided by the UAE in order to alleviate the suffering of citizens by reviving basic and service .

During the past few days, the UAE has adopted a new service project in the water and irrigation sector, which represents the launch of a package of upcoming development and service projects that will be supported and funded during the new year.  The project represented the maintenance and rehabilitation of 21 water facilities in Shabwa Governorate, southeast of Yemen.  The project is a continuation of previous projects aimed at reviving the water and irrigation sector and other sectors, both in Shabwa and the rest of the liberated governorates.

A number of humanitarian projects and actions were implemented by the UAE and its humanitarian arms during the year 2022 to serve the people of Shabwa, and it included the health, lighting, relief and education sectors, leading to the signing of a maintenance agreement for 21 water facilities at the beginning of the year 2023. These projects contributed significantly to the normalization of life and the improvement of services related to the lives of citizens after periods of deterioration.  As a result of the Houthi militia - Iran's arm in Yemen, and the Muslim Brotherhood's Islah party controlling the local authority during previous years.

Improving health services

 The health sector received great attention during the past year, through a package of projects that were implemented and adopted by the UAE and its humanitarian arms, which focused on improving medical services provided to citizens and facilitating access to health care and increasing its effectiveness.

Through the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works, the UAE has adopted an integrated project to equip the Shabwa General Hospital Authority, to be one of the health facilities that provide integrated care for patients and the wounded of the Houthi war and terrorist acts targeting the security and stability of the province.

The Emirati Foundation launched the first phase of operating the hospital in May, and began receiving patients and performing medical interventions and surgical operations for the people of the governorate and its neighboring areas, after the hospital was equipped and supplied with the necessary medical equipment and a first capacity of 100 beds in all medical specialties.  While the second phase aims to equip 250 beds.

The UAE also provided a variety of medical aid, via a relief ship that arrived at the port of Mukalla, adjacent to Shabwa, in November, and carried tons of specialized medical equipment and supplies to support the health sector in Shabwa.

The UAE has also signed, through its humanitarian arms, contracts with pharmaceutical companies, medical supplies and equipment to supply various devices, equipment and furniture, as well as providing Shabwa Hospital with a medical cadre capable of managing and providing health services.  Including the arrival of 15 consultants in various specialties to the Shabwa General Hospital Authority from the UAE.

The UAE concluded the year 2022 with the support of the health sector, by adopting an integrated project aimed at fully reviving and developing the health system in Shabwa Governorate, and the project implemented by the Khalifa bin Zayed Al Nahyan Foundation for Humanitarian Works included the rehabilitation, restoration and equipment of 4 main pivotal hospitals in the governorate and 12 health centers in various directorates.  .  As well as providing hospitals with health supplies, cadres and medical specialties to ensure their workflow, and provide health care for the people of the governorate and all the needy people from other Yemeni governorates.

relief convoys

 The project of running relief convoys to the needy and affected villages and regions is one of the most prominent humanitarian projects adopted by the UAE in favor of alleviating the suffering of the people of Shabwa during the past years.  Over the past year, the Emirates Red Crescent Authority has worked to distribute thousands of food baskets containing basic and necessary items to poor and needy families, people with limited income and people of determination.

The relief teams of the Emirates Red Crescent Authority distributed during 2022 in Shabwa about more than (50) thousand food baskets in separate areas of Shabwa, benefiting more than (252) thousand citizens.

Scholarships

 Supporting the education sector is one of the main priorities that the UAE attaches importance to supporting the people of the liberated Yemeni governorates, including Shabwa.  Evidence of building and rehabilitating many educational facilities is still present to confirm the extent of attention that the UAE has attached to normalizing conditions in the educational sector and helping students, especially in remote areas, to go to schools and complete their education.

During the year 2022, an initiative was launched to provide 80 scholarships to high school graduates for three Yemeni governorates, namely Shabwa, Hadramout, and Aden.  preservation and prosperity.

Restore light to the liberated areas

 Eager to normalize the districts liberated from the control of the Houthi militias, the UAE worked, and within the efforts to normalize the situation, to adopt a humanitarian initiative aimed at restoring light to those areas that lived in complete darkness due to the absurd Houthi war.

The UAE implemented the initiative to light the streets of the districts of Asilan and Ain in Shabwa and Hareeb in Marib, by installing lighting poles powered by “clean energy” solar panels.

Eid clothing distribution

 Over the past years, the "Eid Clothing" project has been one of the humanitarian initiatives that the UAE is keen to implement in a number of liberated governorates, including Shabwa.  During the past year, the field teams affiliated with the Red Crescent distributed Eid clothing to (40,000) beneficiaries, including families with limited incomes, people with special needs, chronic disease patients, and cleaners in Shabwa Governorate.  In addition to the field teams distributing Eid sacrifices in a number of governorate directorates.

Strategic projects

 The sincere fraternal efforts made by the United Arab Emirates for the benefit of the people of Shabwa governorate are appreciated and reciprocated with loyalty.

The Governor of Shabwa, Sheikh Awad bin Al-Wazir Al-Awlaki, praised the strategic projects being implemented by the UAE, the latest of which was the signing of a maintenance agreement for 21 water facilities.  Pointing out that the governorate needs to implement such strategic projects that meet the needs of citizens.

Ibn Al-Wazir appreciated the support of the UAE and its continuous efforts to improve the various service and development sectors in the governorate.

He stressed that financing such a strategic project proves the true will of the UAE to support and support the local authority to achieve a promising future and complete development projects.

He noted that the priority of the local authority and the brothers is based on knowing and understanding people's needs and service priorities, and doing their duty and working to meet them.
