The brutal crimes of torture practiced by the Houthi militia - Iran's arm in Yemen, continue against detainees and abductees in the prisons of these militias located in many Yemeni governorates under their control.

Young Ibrahim Yahya Hashul al-Thamani, from the Majzar district in Saada governorate - the main stronghold of the Houthi group - was kidnapped in late December.  He was placed in the prison of the Al-Talh Security Department, which is controlled by the Houthis, and was subjected to brutal beatings and torture, which led to his death a few days ago.

The young man who works in the vegetable and fruit trade is respected and appreciated by all the merchants in the Al-Jaamla market in the Al-Talh area of the Sahar district.  While practicing his usual work, he was surprised by armed Houthi elements belonging to the security department in the region, who arrested him, imprisoned him, and brutally tortured him.

People close to the young man's family said: We received news of Ibrahim's kidnapping by the Houthis from some of his friends in the popular market in which he works, where the Houthi elements transferred him to the Al-Talh Security Department amid beatings with rifle butts and insults.

They pointed out that the family members went to the security headquarters in order to find out the reasons for the arrest and the charges against him that led to his imprisonment, but the Houthi elements kept evading us and saying that they were implementing the directives of their master, "Abdul-Malik Al-Houthi."

Ibrahim's family was prevented from visiting him or checking on his health, then the news of his death in prison came from the Houthi leaders, who demanded that his family come to receive his lifeless body and bury it quickly.

According to human rights sources, members of his family saw many signs of severe beating and torture on his body, and some of them tried to photograph those bruises in order to document them, but armed Houthi elements were accompanying the body at the moment and prevented photography and demanded that he be buried quickly so that he would not be shown to the forensic doctor and the true cause of death would be revealed.

The incident sparked a state of popular and tribal discontent in the governorate of Saada, to which the Houthi militia is trying to bring its sons to heel by force, as the Al-Thamani family, from which the young Ibrahim descends, refused the attempt to dilute the brutal murder case and announced the escalation to take retribution from his killers.

The Al-Thamani tribe, one of the tribes of the Sahar district in Saada, confirmed that the process of liquidating the young Ibrahim inside the prison will not pass, calling for the speedy submission of the elements involved in the torture process to trial and punishment.

Sheikhs and some Saada notables gathered at the home of Mohammed Al-Razhi, the governor of Saada appointed by the Houthis, to demand the handing over of Ibrahim Al-Thamani's killers and bringing them to justice.

The popular and tribal escalation in Saada prompted the Houthi militia through the Ministry of Interior, which is under its control in Sana'a, and days after the crime, to publish an urgent statement in which it confessed to the process of torturing the young Ibrahim Al-Thamani inside the prison to death.

The spokesman for the Houthi Interior Ministry, Abdul Khaliq Al-Ajri, confirmed that "what happened in terms of beating and torture of the detainee, which led to his death, is totally and completely unacceptable, and it is a personal act of a number of security personnel."

Al-Ajri claimed that the perpetrators of this matter were arrested, and they were referred to the Public Prosecution, which in turn took legal measures against them and directed the detention of the four who were directly beaten in the central prison in the governorate to complete the procedures, and refer them to the judiciary to achieve justice.

The death of the young Ibrahim Al-Thamani as a result of Houthi torture, is added to the hundreds of cases of detainees and abductees who were detained by the militias in prisons in several governorates and practiced the worst forms of torture against them, which led to their death.
