Aden, NewsYemen:

The internationally recognized Yemeni government has affirmed that designating the Houthi militia as a global terrorist organization represents a peaceful option that will bring stability and peace to Yemen, calling on the international community to take a firm stance towards militias that impede peace efforts and a comprehensive settlement.

This came as a comment by the Yemeni government on the statement issued by the Council of the European Union regarding the recent developments in the Yemeni crisis, explaining that all the disturbing violations referred to in the statement of the European Union are an approach rooted in the practices and beliefs of the terrorist Houthi militia, in which they have excelled over all organizations and groups classified as  European and international terrorist lists, including the Iranian Revolutionary Guard and its terrorist militias in the region.

The government welcomed the statement issued by the Council of the European Union at the level of foreign ministers, which affirmed the Union's commitment to the unity, sovereignty, independence and territorial integrity of Yemen and its full support for the President of the Presidential Leadership Council, Rashad al-Alimi, the unity of the Presidential Council, and peace efforts and a comprehensive settlement led by the United Nations in Yemen.

The European Union had called on the Houthi militia to abandon extremist positions and engage constructively with the UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, expressing its strong condemnation of the repeated Houthi drone attacks on port infrastructure in Yemen, starting with the attack on Al-Dhaba port on October 21.

Last October 22, the Presidential Defense Council approved the designation of the Houthi militia - Iran's arm in Yemen, as a terrorist organization, following a series of attacks it carried out with drones on oil ports in the governorates of Shabwa and Hadramout.

The Yemeni government approved a number of measures to implement that classification, in an attempt to respond to the continued Houthi attacks and prevent the export of oil, which deprived the government of large revenues that could have been reaped with the rise in world energy prices during the past months.

The Yemeni government condemned the continued attacks and threats of the Houthis to target international navigation, and considered this "blocking all peace efforts, and dispelling any illusion of the possibility of reaching a solution without changing the facts on the ground."
