Sana'a, NewsYemen, private:

Last month, Sana'a witnessed two murders that aroused interest on social media, and sparked talk with them about the phenomenon of widespread killings in areas controlled by the Houthi militia in recent years.

The first crime was the victim of the diplomat and prominent Yemeni figure, Major General / Dirham Abdo Noman, who was killed inside his house in Haddah area. According to the interview of the victim's son, the perpetrator is known and he is one of his father's friends and he was taking care of him, explaining that he suddenly shot his father with a pistol without knowing the motives.

And the next day after the killing of Dirham witnessed a crime in one of the city’s streets, in which a 20-year-old young man, named Ayman Al-Olfi, objected to a gunman driving his car in the opposite direction, so the gunman hurried and shot him, killing him and injuring two people next to him, who were transferred to the intensive care unit.

The crime was documented by a video clip taken by a surveillance camera that showed the gunman shooting the young man, Ayman, in broad daylight, in front of a gathering of people and leaving the place. The video was widely circulated by Yemenis on social media.

Despite the different circumstances and circumstances of the two incidents and the arrest of the perpetrators, their occurrence in a short period of time in the city of Sanaa is a clear indication of the increasing level of crime in the areas under the control of the Houthi group, especially the murders, as recognized by the group itself.

Last May, in a press conference held by the Houthi interior ministry spokesman, he revealed that 74,000 criminal offenses had occurred during the past Hijri year, and claimed that the ministry's security services had seized nearly 66,000 of them.

The security center of the Ministry of the Interior in the Houthi authority provided figures for alarming statistics on the number of crimes that were seized in the militia-controlled areas during the month of September, with more than 3,000 criminal crimes, including more than 300 premeditated and unintentional killings and attempted murder at a rate of 10 crimes per day.

The statistics, which indicated the occurrence of 51 premeditated murders, 15 unintentional murders, and 246 attempted murders, did not include the governorates of Sanaa, Amanah, and Hodeidah, and only spoke of crimes that were seized by the Houthi authorities, which means that it does not include the crimes committed by the leaders of the group and cover them up, which means that the numbers in reality are much higher

What is striking about the phenomenon of the increase in murders in areas under the control of the Houthi militia are the murders at the family level, and the majority of the perpetrators are militia members, the latest and most horrific was the fact that a militia member set fire to the body of his wife and mother earlier this month, in the Mathbah neighborhood of Sanaa, after returning from a sectarian session.

Hours before this incident, a Houthi gunman killed 4 citizens, including a tribal sheikh, and wounded 3 others, from one family, in a village in Al-Hada District, Dhamar Governorate, in central Yemen.

Far from delving into the causes and motives of these crimes and whether the perpetrators were from the Houthi elements or not, the clear fact indicates that the increase in their numbers in the areas under the control of the Houthi group indicates their transformation into a fertile environment for violence and killing as a result of the hate speech and killing that the group has broadcast over the past years.
