Sources close to the Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen, revealed an increase in divorce cases for women affiliated with the Houthi armed militia, which are called "Zeinabiyat".

The sources told NewsYemen that the Houthi militia, since its coup on September 21, 2014 and its usurpation of power and control of state institutions, has recruited hundreds of female members as a militia affiliated with it within the framework of the so-called "Zeinabiyat" - a term given to the women's branch of the Houthi militia - many of them are women.  Married women, while some of them are still single, pointing out that these elements were subjected to successive training courses, some of which lasted for six months and others for nine months.

While there is still no accurate and official statistic about the number of members of Iran’s female militia, the “Zeinabiyat”, the information that the sources talked about indicates that most, if not all the female members who joined the Zainabiyat militias, are women belonging to the Houthi “Hashemite” families.  “And a woman from outside the framework of these families is rarely found within this militia formation, which is justified by the Houthi leaders by ensuring trust, complete loyalty, and the impossibility of penetration, especially since married women or even single women include their husbands, fathers and brothers from the Houthi leadership elements or loyal to the militias.

According to the sources, despite the loyalty and subordination of the families of the women members involved in the "Zainabiyat" militia to the Houthis, many Houthi leaders were forced to divorce their wives, especially after they were absent for successive times, on the pretext that they had undergone training courses in unknown places for long periods of more than three and sometimes six months.  Which leads to the interruption of any information about these women in their families and their lack of knowledge of anything about them, which led to the exacerbation of family problems and disputes between them and their husbands, children, and their husbands' families, which developed into divorce cases.

The sources indicate that members of the female Houthi militia "Zeinabiyat" are subject to various courses, including general courses for all, military and security, while there are specialized courses in the fields of media and publication on social networks, courses in the field of espionage and surveillance, and others in the aspect of monitoring and analyzing the opinions of women's circles at the level of  Schools, universities, neighborhoods, and other courses that come within the framework of transferring the experience that conducts the work of similar militias in Iran that are affiliated with the Lebanese Hezbollah.

The sources confirm that the duration of these courses and the absence of the women participating in them from their homes, in addition to the return of some of them, and their behavior and the way they deal with their husbands or families have changed, and most of them are now exercising the role of issuing orders and directions, and exploiting their influence to threaten women in their neighborhoods, which led to the outbreak of disputes between their families and their neighbors in  The neighborhoods in which they live, which sparked disputes between them and their husbands, which ended - as the sources indicated - in divorce.

It is worth noting that the "Zeinabiyat" militias are armed Houthi women's groups established outside the framework of the constitution and the law, and they operate away from any controls, regulations, or constitutional or legal powers, as they storm women's institutions, as well as state institutions, and monitor, search and raid operations  And the arrest of women leaders opposing the militia of Iran’s arm, and they are present in some important facilities, especially schools, universities and hospitals, where these militias were entrusted to carry out inspections for security justifications, before their role expanded to exercise security, administrative and supervisory powers over some facilities, especially girls’ schools and women’s facilities.

The responsibilities of the Zainabiyat were not limited to these tasks, but were entrusted with other security tasks represented in carrying out torture operations against women who were kidnapped and arrested by militias, whether women who were released, or those who are still in detention.

According to the sources, the Zainabiyat practice the role of interrogators with the female detainees and torture them by using beatings with sticks, torture by electric shocks, or psychological torture through threats made to female detainees regarding honor-related issues or threatening the families of female detainees.
