On Tuesday, the Security Belt forces repelled a major terrorist attack launched by Al-Qaeda in Abyan Governorate, southern Yemen, killing 6 of the attacking elements, and capturing others.

A security source said that members of the terrorist organization Al-Qaeda launched a violent attack on a security point of the Security Belt forces in the town of Muqatin in the Ahwar district in Abyan governorate.

The source added that the Security Belt forces engaged in violent clashes with al-Qaeda elements, which led to the death of the commander of the First Battalion Counter-Terrorism, Yasser Shaye, and at least 20 soldiers.

Among the martyrs, "Mohammed Mahmoud Yasser Hammadi" and a number of the first fighters of the People's Committees in Khanfar District, Abyan Governorate, were companions of the martyr "Ali al-Sayed" who was executed by Ansar al-Sharia, the local branch of al-Qaeda, during its invasion of the city of Jaar.
