The south and the elite of the north..a "unitary" noise that fortifies the "secession" of the Houthis
English - Sunday 04 September 2022 الساعة 04:33 pmWith a wide smile, Brigadier General Mukhtar al-Nubi appeared next to Brigadier General Sanad al-Rahwa, last Wednesday, in an expressive image that swept social media sites because of the great change in the scene in the south since the Shabwa events about a month ago.
The significance of the photo, which was taken in Abyan, lies in the fact that both the Nubi and Al-Rahwa represented the spearhead of the forces that fought the confrontations on such days 3 years ago; They share the position of the leader of the Abyan axis (STC - legitimacy).
The photo was taken inside one of the legitimacy camps in the Jahin area, as part of Operation Seham al-Sharq, which is being carried out by the southern forces in Abyan governorate to purify it of terrorist elements, with the support and participation of the forces in the governorate, which were previously loyal to the Brotherhood and General Al-Ahmar.
The change in the position of these forces came as a shock to what the group and the general were waiting for, to engage in a round of conflict through which to compensate for the defeat of the rebellion led by its formations in Ataq Shabwa last month.
The military scene in Abyan coincided with remarkable steps and moves by the Transitional Council for dialogue with southern leaders and components, its call to return to Aden, and its emphasis on openness with all southern visions and projects under the roof and goal of restoring the southern state.
The steps and efforts to unite in the south were met with a violent attack by the Brotherhood, which it considered a plot by the coalition to divide Yemen; this speech was supported and shared by the Houthi group through its activists and media.
What is remarkable was the participation of a wide range of leaders and elites from the north (outside the framework of the two groups) within this wave and under the banners of preserving unity; With the emergence of calls for an alliance between the Houthis and the Brotherhood to confront what it sees as the "risk of secession" in the south.
The escalation of this "unitary" noise; It represented an appropriate opportunity for activists from the north and south to recall the reality of the "separation" led by the Houthi group since its expulsion from the liberated areas in the past years; the rest of the area of Yemen is now under its control, a state of its own.
A separation that began with the Houthi group banning the new currency issued by the Bank of Aden, which created two currencies at a different exchange rate; This was followed by changing the educational curricula from the formal curriculum; with not recognizing all the documents and transactions issued from the liberated areas.
The matter came to the establishment by the Houthi group of customs points on the roads linking with the liberated areas and the imposition of customs duties on goods coming from them; like goods coming from another country.
The most dangerous feature of the Houthi-led secession remains its intensive policy of implanting its ideas imported from Iran into its areas of control through education, summer centers and the media, and forcing the largest number of citizens to attend the so-called cultural courses; this threatens to create a sectarian society that is separate not from its Yemeni but Arab surroundings.
