Sana'a, NewsYemen, private:

Informed sources said that the Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen, prevented the leaders of the conference in several areas under its control from holding celebrations to commemorate the fortieth anniversary of the founding of the General People's Congress, which will fall next Wednesday, August 24.

The General People's Congress was established on August 24, 1982  by the founder, the former President Martyr Ali Abdullah Saleh, as the first Yemeni political organization that was established after a societal dialogue in which all segments of society participated in what was known as the Yemen Arab Republic, at the time, and contributed to the formulation of its theory (the National Pact).  Various partisan orientations - prohibited from engaging in any political activity at the time - including the Muslim Brotherhood, which had the lion's share, in addition to representatives of the leftist forces (Nasiris - Socialists - Baathists), and to complete its spread in the south after the restoration of Yemeni unity on May 22, 1990 , so that it became  It is the most popular party in Yemen and has been at the top of the list of democratic elections that Yemen witnessed since the first parliamentary elections in 1993 until the last presidential and local elections in 2006.

The sources added to NewsYemen, that while the Houthi militia may allow the conference leaders in Sanaa to hold a simple and small party, it has issued directives to its supervisors in the governorates under its control not to allow any celebrations or activities for the conference branches there in any form whatsoever.

According to the sources, some leaders of the conference’s branches in the governorates of (Hajjah - Amran - Dhamar - Al Mahwit) informed the governors of those provinces and the security services in them of their intention to hold festive events on the occasion of the fortieth anniversary of the founding of the conference, and the response to them was from the local and security authorities affiliated with the militias that this is forbidden,  And with the justification that we are in a phase of war and aggression, which requires the mobilization of the fronts and not the holding of electoral celebrations.

And this is not the first time that the Houthi militias have prevented conference participants in their areas of control from celebrating the occasion of the founding of their party, as it had previously prevented them from uploading pictures of the two martyrs, Ali Abdullah Saleh, the former President of the Republic, the President of the General People’s Congress, and his companion, the martyr Arif Al-Zuka, who were assassinated by the militias in December 2017, not to mention the  Preventing them from holding any meetings, meetings or organizational activities since after December 2017, so that only the leaders of the Sana’a Conference are allowed to hold small meetings or simple festive activities under the supervision, follow-up and control of the Houthi security and intelligence services.

Since the martyrdom of President Ali Abdullah Saleh and his companion, Secretary Arif Al-Zoka, the leaders of the General People’s Congress living in Sana’a and the Houthi militia-controlled areas have become more like leaders who are under house arrest, as they were forced to continue what the militias call the partnership with the GPC in power, but it has been established since the first day of the assassination of President Saleh  And his companion, Al-Zoka, is alone in the decisions of government and authority, and robbery even of the ministries that were part of the conference’s share in the Sana’a government, which is not recognized internationally, passing through its complete uniqueness in managing state affairs, and the retention of some conference leaders in some ministries in decorative positions, while they are the ones that control all the joints.  Authority and governance, and the end of the exclusion and expulsion of leaders affiliated with the conference from various administrative positions, whether at the level of ministries or at the level of their offices and branches in Sana’a and the governorates controlled by the militias, and their replacement with elements affiliated with them, far from any considerations related to the criteria for occupying the public office.
