On Monday, the United States of America called on the terrorist Houthi militia to accept the proposal of the UN Special Envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, and to open the Taiz crossings without delay.

This came in the words of the US Ambassador to the United Nations, Ambassador Linda Thomas Greenfield, during the UN Security Council session on Yemen

"We call on the parties to intensify and accelerate negotiations to finalize an expanded agreement based on the proposal shared by the UN Special Envoy," the US delegate said.

"The expanded agreement will allow discussions to secure a comprehensive nationwide ceasefire and pave the way for the resumption of the Yemeni political process," she added.

She added, "The first step to secure an expanded agreement is to take action by the Houthis in Taiz, so we call on the Houthis to accept the UN envoy's proposal and open the roads leading to Taiz without delay."

In addition, Greenfield called on the Houthi militia to immediately and unconditionally release Yemeni employees working at the US Embassy and United Nations employees being held in its prisons.

The US delegate to the Security Council said, "The detention of these individuals and other humanitarian workers is unacceptable. It has been a long time since the Houthis ended this outrageous behavior."
