Aden, NewsYemen, Hadeel Muhammad:

This July 22 marks the seventh anniversary of the liberation of Aden from the grip of the Tehran-backed Houthi militia, and the striking of the Iranian project in the south, days after the launch of Operation Golden Arrow, backed by the Coalition to Support Legitimacy in Yemen, on 17 of the same month.

In late March 2015, the Houthi militia invaded the governorate of Aden and took control of the airport and large areas in Khormaksar, Crater, Al-Tawahi, and Al-Mualla, and during nearly four months of fierce battles, the resistance was defending the districts that survived: Al-Mansoura, Sheikh Othman, Al-Bariqa, and Dar  Saad, before the legendary defense and steadfastness of the resistance for four months turned to the attack in mid-July with the launch of Operation Golden Arrow.

The militia's revolutionary committee had declared a state of "general mobilization" after Hadi managed to flee to Aden, and the Houthis, with the support of some army commanders, began a civil war to control the southern governorates, and the city of Taiz fell, followed by Al-Houta and the strategic Al-Anad air base north of Aden.

As of April 10, the New York Times said that most of the defenders of Aden were citizens who took up arms against the Houthi invaders and formed organized groups to protect their residential neighborhoods.

A report by Haq Organization for Rights and Freedoms, a voluntary civil human rights organization operating from Aden, describes what Aden witnessed in 2015. “There were armed attacks committed outside the law by rebel military and security forces, and Houthi militias, on the other hand, there was popular resistance to these attacks.”  .

Iran was present in the battle of Aden through its Houthi tails and through its military experts, and the resistance was able to arrest two officers from the Iranian Revolutionary Guards’ Quds Force, one with the rank of colonel and the other with the rank of captain, who were working as “advisers” to the Houthi militia, during the fighting in Aden.

The morning of July 17, 2015, the twenty-seventh of Ramadan 1436 AH, represented a military strategic shift, after the resistance, backed by forces from the United Arab Emirates, managed to liberate Aden Airport, restore the port, and restore almost complete control of the governorate after 4 months of the Houthi invasion.

By July 22, the third day of Eid al-Fitr of that year, the resistance had managed to defeat the Houthi militia and regain full control of Aden, and Aden International Airport was reopened.  Visiting their relatives during Eid Al Fitr!!

The Houthis had planted anti-personnel mines in Aden, Abyan and Lahj, where the specialized teams removed 91 anti-personnel mines, 666 anti-vehicle mines, 316 improvised explosive devices, and a number of hand grenades, shells and detonators.

Landmines have killed 98 people and injured 332 others in Aden, Abyan and Lahj since their liberation in mid-July until August 19.  The number of mines in the three governorates was estimated at more than 150 thousand mines.

The operation to liberate Aden from the Houthi militia was a historic battle that recorded the most important victory against the Houthi priesthood and the Iranian project.
