Abyan, NewsYemen:

The people of the central region of Abyan governorate demanded, on Monday, in a peaceful protest, the opening of the Aqabat Thara road in the Lauder district in the central Abyan governorate, southern Yemen, which was closed by the Houthi militia after its collapse and flight in 2015.

The protesters set out from downtown Lawdar and roamed the city's streets, raising banners calling for the road to be opened and for the file to be included in the files to open the roads closed by the Houthi militia.

They pointed out that the road is vital and must be opened for the benefit of the central districts in Abyan governorate, as well as Al-Bayda governorate.

They emphasized that their stance is purely humanitarian and has no other political goal other than opening this important road and the main artery of Abyan governorate, because its closure has caused human suffering and severe economic damage, and citizens have endured that suffering for seven lean years.

It is worth noting that the Thara obstacle represents the only artery in the central region of Abyan governorate, and its closure caused prices to rise, diverting travelers’ routes, transporting goods and vegetables, and representing the first line for traders and farmers in transporting their goods and products between the two governorates and other governorates.
