During the past 24 hours, the Saudi capital, Riyadh, witnessed remarkable meetings that brought together for the first time prominent political figures who remained at complete estrangement between them due to differences in orientations and visions.

The first meeting brought together the President of the Southern Transitional Council, Aidarous Al-Zubaidi, and Ahmed Al-Essa, a prominent businessman who is close to the Brotherhood and the head of the Southern Coalition, an entity established by the man to confront the transitional politically in the south.

According to the council's official website, Al-Zubaidi received Al-Essa at his residence in Riyadh, "in a friendly meeting within the framework of the efforts of the Southern External Dialogue team to gather the word, unify the southern ranks and bring together views on everything related to the southern concern and the issue of the people of the south."

Al-Zubaidi stressed the Transitional Council leadership’s keenness to unite ranks, eliminate disparities, and gather the southern people of all sects around one table to serve the southern people and their cause, and to miss the opportunity for the forces lurking in the south and seeking by all means to tear its societal fabric to eliminate its national project.

This meeting was widely welcomed in southern circles and among southern activists on social media, who emphasized the great impact of any consensus between the Council and the coalition on the unity of the southern scene.

The second remarkable meeting that Riyadh witnessed was the departure of the leader of the national resistance, Brigadier Tariq Saleh, to offer his condolences on the death of parliamentarian / Hussein Al-Ahmar, in the funeral hall that was established by his brothers in Riyadh.

And social networking sites circulated a picture of Brigadier General Tariq and the parliamentary leader of the Brotherhood / Hamid Al-Ahmar, in the first meeting between the man in more than 10 years.

The image received wide circulation among activists on social networking sites, who welcomed Brigadier Tariq's step to offer condolences on the death of Sheikh / Hussein Al-Ahmar, despite the severe political dispute between the two parties against the background of the events of 2011.

These meetings, which come against the backdrop of the presence of these personalities in the Riyadh consultations, which are being held under the auspices of the General Secretariat of the Gulf Cooperation Council, were considered a factor of optimism that the consultations would be able to unite the ranks of the Houthi opponents in the north and south.
