United Nations: Yemeni parties agree to two-month truce, starting on Saturday

The UN envoy to Yemen, Hans Grundberg, announced the response of the parties to the conflict in the country to a proposal for a two-month truce, which will enter into force today, Saturday.

The office of the UN envoy said, in a statement, that the parties to the conflict in Yemen responded positively to a UN proposal for a two-month truce, starting from the second of April.

The statement added, "The parties agreed to stop all air, land and sea military operations inside Yemen and across its borders, as well as the entry of fuel ships to the ports of Hodeidah and commercial flights to operate inside and outside Sanaa airport to predetermined destinations in the region," according to the statement.

The UN envoy pointed out that the parties agreed to meet under his auspices to open roads in Taiz and other governorates in Yemen, and "the truce can be renewed after a period of two months with the consent of the parties."

The UN envoy indicated that he plans to use these two months to intensify work with the parties with the aim of reaching a permanent ceasefire, addressing urgent economic and humanitarian measures, and resuming the political process.

He called on the Yemeni parties to fully abide by and respect the truce and its elements, and to take all necessary steps to implement it immediately.
