Angelina Jolie begins her humanitarian mission from a camp for the displaced in Lahj

 On Monday, Angelina Jolie, Special Envoy of the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, visited a camp for the displaced in Lahj Governorate, southern Yemen.

The United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees, on the account of its office in Yemen on Twitter, said that "Angelina Jolie's first stop in Yemen was at a site in Lahj Governorate."

She stated that Jolie "spoke to displaced women who are struggling to make ends meet."

She pointed out that 35 families left their homes in Lahj governorate to other areas in the same governorate, to escape the conflict, but they are currently facing harsh conditions and "barely living."

Earlier, American actress Angelina Jolie said, on her Instagram account: "I am here in Yemen to support people who are also in dire need of peace."

Jolie added: "Yemen is one of the worst humanitarian crises in the world, with one civilian killed or injured every hour."

"The war has also devastated the economy and made more than 20 million Yemenis dependent on humanitarian aid for their survival," she said.

 On Sunday, American star Angelina Jolie arrived in Yemen to draw attention to the catastrophic effects of the conflict there. 

UNHCR said:"We hope her visit will help draw attention to the catastrophic effects of more than 7 years of conflict,".
