Marib, NewsYemen:

The International Committee of the Red Cross revealed that about 50,000 people in the governorates of Marib and Hodeidah have been forced to leave their homes since last September, in search of safety in light of the intensification of battles.

The committee said in a statement that the ongoing military operations on several fronts and the mines planted in separate areas have threatened the lives of civilians and their means of livelihood, in addition to impeding civilians' access to basic services, including water, food, health care and education.

The statement quoted Katharina Ritz, head of the International Committee of the Red Cross delegation in Yemen, as saying that she witnessed firsthand the effects of the great destruction left by the conflict on both sides of the fighting fronts.

She added, "Acts of violence targeting civilians and individuals do not only constitute violations of international and humanitarian law, but also violate the most basic principles of humanity."

The head of the commission's mission indicated that most of those who left their homes are now without belongings, and are struggling to secure a decent shelter and an opportunity to obtain the most basic services for themselves and their families, in light of an already exhausted infrastructure.
