Over the past three years, the coastal city of Mocha, west of Taiz Governorate, has recorded rapid growth in all economic and service sectors, driven by the increased demand in the economy for goods and services.
The stable security environment that has characterized the city since 2017, attracted thousands of families and laborers from various Yemeni governorates, which raised the demand for goods and services, which provided multiple investment opportunities.
The construction sector, which witnessed a significant expansion to meet the increasing demand for housing, contributed to moving professions related to the sector and attracting citizens' savings and capital.
The building and construction sector is one of the important economic sectors due to its contribution to the GDP and the wide intertwining with other economic activities.
The increased activity of the real estate sector in the city of Mocha resulted in an increase in the movement of transport, the number of blacksmithing workshops, carpentry workshops, and small industries that support the construction sector, such as the production of bricks and aluminum, and glass-forming workshops, as well as an increase in shops selling building materials.
The investment sector in hotels witnessed a great boom, and tripled compared to its number before 2017, in light of the increase in the number of guests, including merchants, citizens and travelers, which reflects the volume of influx into the city.
The city of Mocha, the first residential city in the country, was built during the war years; The second city of December, which consists of 600 housing units, which has a positive impact on all economic, development and service sectors.
Infrastructure rehabilitation works, organizations’ work programs, the emergency cash transfer program, the investment movement in conference and wedding halls, parent education, restaurants and small and medium enterprises, helped increase cash circulation.
The banking sector witnessed rapid growth, as the facilities of companies and money exchanges exceeded 16 facilities, in addition to two branches of two commercial banks, to keep pace with the expansion of commercial activity, which increased by 500 percent compared to 2014.
In the field of basic public services, health, education and electricity, record achievements have been made, as the health sector has been expanded and rehabilitated in the city of Mocha, and it is now meeting the needs of patients from the government of Al-Hodeidah and Taiz.
The city of Mocha is preparing to inaugurate a 10-megawatt electric power station, to meet the needs of citizens and the local community in the city.
Citizens of the districts of Mocha and Al Khawkha said that since the liberation of the western coast, security and stability, basic services and means of livelihood have returned, even the wages of daily workers have risen, due to the expansion of works and commercial activity.
Economic indicators show the return of agricultural and fishery activity in the districts and villages of the West Coast to levels that exceeded what it was before the war.
