We are approaching two months since the fall of the Bayhan districts in Shabwa governorate, in the hands of the Houthi militia, without any move by the ruling Brotherhood authority in the governorate to restore it.
Bayhan’s file is political, according to the people of the district, and what happened was an agreement between the authority and the Houthis.. And the militias’ exit will be by another agreement if the Shabwa authority wanted, and there is no hope currently to liberate it under this governing authority of the governorate, as the people of Bayhan say.
Activists from Bayhan say that what fall that happened is more like fiction.
The people of the city woke up to Houthi gunmen roaming the city, they weren’t that many but controlling its facilities and the disappearance of the large forces that were in the evening controlling the city and their control and presence reached the Aqbat Al-Qanda which is far from the city. But how did that withdrawal happen and the entry of dozens of Houthi militants, they do not know.
The people of Bayhan say that the Brotherhood's authority throughout its control over the districts has been suppressing, arresting and kidnapping resistance fighters, tribesmen, and demonstrators supporting the southern cause and even those who demand services.
Citizens in the city point out that the Special Forces in Bayhan arrested leaders and employees of the Al-Bayhani Brigades, which had a prominent role in liberating the city from the militias in the year 2017, and put many of its members in its prisons, and many of them are still in the prison of Al-Shuhada and Mara in Ataq.
The militias control the city and manage its facilities, and their militants are deployed in the center and around the city and in the nearby mountains, but they are not that strong, but rather small numbers and with light weapons, especially after they sent their forces and weapons towards the Marib fronts.
Regarding the raids and arrests in the city, and whether the militias carried out campaigns against those who were working for the governing authorities of the city, residents of Bayhan denied the existence of house raids, but they confirmed the presence of arrests of young men from the streets and markets accusing them of cooperating and communicating with the resistance, and they are currently in the security prison in Bayhan.
Citizens in Bayhan say that the Houthi militia has set a deadline to get rid of the currency that the legitimate government recently printed, known as the small one, and to deal with the old currency.
According to the citizens, it asked them to get rid of all the new money within two months, threatening campaigns to imprison whoever deals in the new currency after the deadline and taking severe measures against him..
In terms of services, the case of Bayhan is like the case of the Houthi-controlled areas.
There are no salaries, no services, and a complete power outage after stopping the fuel deprivation authority of the governorate.
The citizens of Bayhan feel disappointed with the current authority and talk about the betrayal of their directorates, and they seem to have little hope of liberating them in light of the Brotherhood’s control of the governorate, the military forces and the management of the war.
