Two years have passed since the announcement of the Riyadh Agreement, between the legitimate Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council, and most of its provisions are still ink on paper, and have not been implemented until today, after the Brotherhood worked with all force to disrupt its implementation.
On November 5, 2019, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia announced that a solution had been reached between the legitimate parties and the Transitional Council and the signing of the Riyadh Agreement, to end the tension in the southern governorates, and unify the effort to confront the Houthi militia.
The legitimacy of the interim president, Abd Rabbo Mansour Hadi, did not implement the terms of the agreement and what it complied with, except in line with the interests of the Brotherhood, so it bet on its failure, by various means from the beginning, with partisan motives.
The Islah party, which dominates the presidential decision, put obstacles and refused to implement the military aspect, with Hadi’s approval, and triggered an absurd battle in Abyan governorate that lasted for months, but the goal was not achieved.
Brotherhood Ali Mohsen al-Ahmar, the military leader of legitimacy, continued the military mobilization towards the south and used all dirty means to bring down the second party in the south through terrorist elements and booby traps and support chaos, including the war of services, cutting salaries, for months on end, and disrupting the work of the government.
The economic war was also one of the battles of the Brotherhood and Hadi, aimed at disrupting the Riyadh Agreement, through oil revenues in Marib, Shabwa, and Hadramawt, and preventing the process of linking bank branches in the Brotherhood-controlled governorates to the Central Bank in the capital, Aden, which led to the catastrophic collapse of the economy in the liberated areas. And the price of one dollar against the local currency reached 1500 riyals, and the Saudi riyal reached 400.
Hadi went beyond what was included in the terms of the Riyadh Agreement, as he issued, yesterday, two republican decisions, appointing Engineer Muhammad Yeslam as CEO of the Aden Refineries Company and Engineer Ammar Nasser Al-Awlaki as Director of the Oil Company.
After that, the Southern Transitional Council confirmed its rejection of the decisions issued by President Hadi, stressing that they are unilateral and in violation of the provisions of the agreement.
This came in a statement to the official spokesman of the Transitional Council, Ali Al-Kathiri, who said that the decisions are unilateral, contrary to the texts and contents of the Riyadh Agreement.
Al-Kathiri considered these decisions as further obstruction of efforts to complete the implementation of the Riyadh Agreement, stressing the Southern Transitional Council's rejection of such decisions and all their consequences.
Political analyst, Muhammad Jawas, was surprised by Hadi's identification with the Islah party's desire to disrupt the Riyadh Agreement.
In a post on Facebook, Jawas said that obstruction of the Riyadh Agreement by the Islah party is expected, because the agreement legitimizes the southerners in recognition of a greater political reality and thus legitimizes greater authoritarian influence in their southern geography, which the Brotherhood considers a threat to its influence.
Jawas added: What is surprising and wrong is the identification of the president, who is a southerner, with the desire for reform to obstruct the Riyadh Agreement.
