Brigadier General Abdul Latif al-Sayed, commander of the Security Belt and Rapid Intervention Forces, in Abyan Governorate, southern Yemen, revealed that a prominent leader of the terrorist organization al-Qaeda joined the legitimate forces.
The commander of the Security Belt said, in a statement to "Akhbar Alan", that the leader in al-Qaeda (Omar al-Nahdi) actually defected from the organization and is now present alongside the legitimate forces in Hadhramaut Valley.
Al-Nahdi is a leader in al-Qaeda, of Hadrami origin, and was close to the organization's leader, "Khaled Batarfi", who stormed the Republican Palace in Mukalla in 2015.
