Aden, NewsYemen:

The US State Department said, on Saturday, that peace in Yemen will not be achieved in Yemen, unless the Houthi militia finally commits itself to meaningful participation in the talks, as the other parties have done.

The State Department stressed, in a statement, that it is now time to stop obstructing progress on Yemen's future.

The statement said, "Peace and recovery can only be achieved if the Houthis commit definitively to meaningful participation in peace talks as the other parties have done."

In this context, the US Special Envoy for Yemen, Tim Lenderking, expressed his concern over the Houthi militia's continued refusal to participate in the ceasefire and political talks in a meaningful way, stressing that the worsening humanitarian crisis in the country can only be addressed through a permanent agreement between the Yemeni parties.

This came in a statement issued by Lenderking (Saturday) after his return to Washington after a visit to Saudi Arabia that lasted for several days.

During the visit, Lenderking met with senior officials of the Yemeni and Saudi governments, the Gulf Cooperation Council, the international community, and the office of the UN Special Envoy, according to the statement, which was published on the official website of the US State Department.

He explained that the US envoy called during these meetings to end the escalating fighting in Marib and various parts of Yemen, as this leads to an increase in the suffering of the Yemeni people.

He said Lenderking "discussed the immediate measures that should be taken to alleviate the humanitarian and economic crisis, including increasing fuel imports, ending fuel and price gouging, and allocating additional economic and humanitarian aid to the country."

According to the statement, Linderking called, during his meetings, for the Yemeni government and the Southern Transitional Council to work together to improve services and stabilize the economy in the country, stressing that the first critical step in this regard is to ensure that the necessary conditions are in place for the Yemeni government to return to Aden.
