The United Nations Resident Representative and Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen, David Grisley, said on Wednesday that the main challenge facing the United Nations in Yemen is to mobilize the resources it needs to provide humanitarian assistance.

During his first two-day visit to Mocha and the coastal districts, Grisley added that one of the reasons for his visit is to see the humanitarian situation closely so that he can transfer it to the international parties.

He explained that humanitarian work is for emergency life-saving interventions, but we cannot continue to rely on aid alone forever.

He said there should be complementary efforts to sustainable interventions, calling on donors abroad to invest in areas beyond aid.

He stressed that these efforts should not wait until peace or the current situation ends, but should start now, explaining that water and education are the first priorities that the population in general should have.

He pointed out that the issue of demining is so important that two demining experts were included in the delegation to help with further advice on the ways to work.

He said that what the local authority in Mocha presented with the list of needs will be of interest to him, and all the notes mentioned have been taken.

He stressed that he will convey many of these needs to the meeting of the United Nations General Assembly, which will be held next September, where a side meeting will be devoted to Yemen at the level of foreign ministers, and that he will inform them of many of the observations he heard during the visit.

He expressed his happiness to work on re-opening the Mocha port with efforts and self-resources, describing it as a good step.

He said that the efforts to revive life or return to the stage of reviving life, whether in the port of Mocha or in other places, is a good step and a good example to help restore life in other areas.

He considered that what is happening in the port of Mocha is a model for all Yemenis about what can be done to return Yemen to what it was before.

The Resident Representative of the United Nations and the Humanitarian Coordinator in Yemen is scheduled to visit a number of camps for the displaced to see the humanitarian situation and listen to their living needs closely

For his part, the director of the Mocha Directorate, Basem Al-Zuraqi, reviewed a list of the necessary needs of the directorate in the areas of health, education and water.

In his speech, he said that the people of Mocha find, in this historic visit of Grisley, a new birth for all they lost in the war of development projects in the fields of water, education and health, as the most prominent needs of the stage and other urgent and urgent projects.

He stressed that today we urgently need to provide a source of fresh drinking water with the support of the water extension project, considering that 100,000 citizens of the district are threatened with thirst as a result of salinity and pollution of fresh water sources, stressing the need to support Mocha Hospital with the necessary equipment.
