Aden, NewsYemen:

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate published a human rights report in which it monitored a number of violations that affected media freedoms in the country during the past 6 months.

A semi-annual report monitored 36 cases of violations from the beginning of this year until the end of last June, affecting journalists, photographers and media institutions.

The Yemeni Journalists Syndicate documented 12 cases of kidnapping, detention, prosecution and harassment, 4 cases of threats and incitement against journalists, and 5 cases of attacks on journalists, media headquarters and private property.

In addition, 18 cases of denial of coverage and confiscation of newspapers, and 7 cases of prosecution and accountability of journalists, were documented.

The report stated that the Houthi group committed 20 cases of violations at a rate of 55 percent, while the legitimate government in its various formations committed 10 cases of violations at a rate of 28 percent, while the Southern Transitional Council committed 6 cases at a rate of 17 percent.

The syndicate pointed out that the scene reflects the continuation of the conflict parties to the policy of narrowing the journalistic workspace, involving journalists in conflicts, and dealing with them as enemies after harming them by stopping the salaries of hundreds of them.

It called for respect for freedom of opinion and expression, media pluralism, and the right of citizens to obtain information.

It demanded the release of all kidnapped journalists, the abolition of the unjust death sentences against them, an end to the suffering of their families, and reparation for their harm.
