Sana'a, NewsYemen:

The Houthi militia - the Iranian arm in Yemen - has appointed a new supervisor at Sana'a University to supervise the titles of graduation research and master's and doctoral theses, and to control the content of public libraries.

According to academic sources who spoke to NewsYemen, the militia appointed Fayez Al-Batah (Bachelor) as an (illegal) advisor to the president of the university for cultural affairs, in what was considered a clear violation of the university law and academic employment standards.

The Houthi militia granted its supervisor powers and tasks that are within the competence of the departments and councils of the various scientific faculties, before being ratified by the University Council.

One of the tasks of the Houthi supervisor at Sana’a University is to “preserve the faith identity,” as a loose slogan devoted to sectarian and sectarian division and exacerbating the political and societal division.

In addition to cultural supervision of academic performance, Al-Battah's tasks include, "the cultural evaluation of the content of libraries as well as the review of the lists of books that enter libraries."  And “Cultural supervision of updating and developing academic curricula for undergraduate and graduate studies,” and “Cultural review of titles of graduate research and doctoral theses.”
