Saudi-US talks on a ceasefire in Yemen

The Yemen file topped the agenda of the talks that US Secretary of State Anthony Blinken had with Saudi Deputy Defense Minister Prince Khalid bin Salman, on Wednesday evening, in Washington.

And the US State Department said in a statement published on its official website, that “Secretary of State Anthony Blinken joined Under Secretary of State for Political Affairs Victoria Nuland in a discussion with Saudi Deputy Defense Minister Khalid bin Salman about working to achieve a nationwide ceasefire and the transition to the political process.”  In Yemen".

It added "They also discussed supporting Saudi defense capabilities, promoting human rights, and regional security,".

In turn, the Saudi Deputy Defense Minister said in a tweet on his Twitter account, "Today (Wednesday), I met His Excellency the US Secretary of State, Anthony Blinken, and we reviewed the partnership between the two countries and ways to develop it, as well as the most prominent developments in the region."

 "We also discussed cooperation in files of common interest and support for efforts to maintain security, peace and stability at the regional and international levels," he added.

On Tuesday and Wednesday, the Saudi Deputy Defense Minister held meetings with a number of officials in the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and leaders of the US Department of Defense, which dealt with prospects for strengthening defense cooperation between the two countries and developments in the region, foremost of which are developments in Yemen, especially efforts to achieve a ceasefire and resume political consultations.
