Aden, NewsYemen:

State Department spokesman Ned Price said during a press conference Thursday evening: “We will continue to hold the Houthi leadership accountable for their reprehensible behavior, including the ongoing attacks on our Saudi partners.”

He added, "The principle that the United States, and indeed Saudi Arabia, and the rest of the region recognizes, is that there is no military solution to the conflict in Yemen. This matter becomes more evident in the world."

Price indicated that for this very reason, one of the first actions that Biden took after assuming the presidency was the appointment of Timothy Lenderking as a special US envoy to Yemen, stressing that one of his primary goals was to support the efforts of the UN envoy, Martin Griffiths.

The US State Department spokesman continued: “We intend, while we will continue to exert pressure on the Houthi leadership, to also continue to work with all concerned parties to ensure our ability to initially reach a stable and sustainable ceasefire, and then a stable and sustainable political solution.”

He added, "This is what will ultimately result in the alleviation of the human suffering of the Yemeni people and will also lead to a more stable Yemen and a safer Saudi Arabia."
