Aden, NewsYemen:

The head of the Southern Transitional Council in Yemen said Joe Biden could help end the six-year civil war in Yemen.

In an interview with the British Guardian newspaper, Al-Zubaidi called on the US special envoy to Yemen, Tim Lenderking, to hold talks with the Southern Transitional Council, saying: "The issues in the country will not be resolved if the voice of the south is ignored. We need a referendum, or some other mechanism." For the people of the South to express their views. "

He added that holding a referendum would show 90% of support for the independence of southern Yemen and it should be limited within the southern regions.

He said, "Our popular support across the south is very large, and if the United Nations organizes a referendum, we are confident that we will gain support from more than 90% of the population of the south."

He insisted that the Southern Transitional Council, formed in 2017, needed to be represented in any peace talks sponsored by the United Nations.

While Al-Zubaidi warned that the current Houthi offensive on the oil-rich Marib governorate is likely to cause disaster for the refugees, it is also likely to change the political landscape by depriving the Hadi government of its last remaining large territory in northern Yemen.

He warned that the fall of Marib would have dire consequences, not only on the humanitarian level, but it could accelerate the process of international talks between the north and the south, according to Al-Zubaidi.
