Aden, NewsYemen:

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, condemned the military escalation of the Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen, including the targeting of the Saudi capital, Riyadh, on Saturday, with a ballistic missile.

In a statement, Aboul Gheit affirmed that "the Houthi group's escalation of its operations and attacks on Marib since the beginning of last month comes - inevitably and unfortunately - within the framework of a reckless Iranian agenda that uses Yemen as a political bargaining chip without any consideration of the dangerous consequences for the lives of the civilian population."

He added that the Houthi group "bears responsibility for the deterioration of the humanitarian situation in Yemen to a point where the population is close to starvation."

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States expressed full solidarity with the Kingdom "in any measures it takes to defend its territory and the safety of its population," stressing his confidence in its ability "to confront these terrorist attacks that target civilians."
