Sanaa, NewsYemen:

A court under the control of the Houthi militia - the Iranian branch in Yemen - has set the date for the resumption of the trial of 4 journalists kidnapped five years ago, who were previously sentenced to death by the same court with its primary division.

In a post on his Facebook page, the defense lawyer for the detainees, Abdul Majeed Sabra, said, "The Specialized Criminal Appeals Division decided on Sunday after next (March 7) the first court sessions in the case of the four journalists."

He added that the journalists whose trial procedures will be resumed by the militia are: “Abd al-Khaliq Omran, Akram Al-Walidi, Al-Harith Saleh Hamid, and Tawfiq Al-Mansouri, and those sentenced to death in retribution from the First Instance Criminal Court” last year.

Lawyer Sabra had submitted a report challenging the indictment, according to which the Specialized Criminal Court issued a judgment on April 11, 2020, to execute the four journalists in discretionary terms, in a sham and illegal trial in which journalists were prevented from responding to the charges and their lawyers were prevented from attending the sessions until the issuance of the death sentence.
