Parliament .. long absence and Houthi death sentences do not stop

A few days ago, the Houthi militia sentenced 11 parliamentarians to death, confiscated all their property at home and abroad, and executed the verdict in Tahrir Square in central Sanaa by firing squad.

The Houthi decision included Ghalib al-Qurashi, Ali Ashal, Hamid al-Ahmar, Ensaf Mayo, Bakil al-Sufi, Zaid al-Shami, Saeed Mubarak Doman, Ali al-Maamari, Muhammad Rashad al-Alimi, Najeeb Saeed Ghanem, and Ahmed Abbas al-Nahari.

This ruling is not the first of its kind, as the Houthi militia previously issued a similar ruling against 35 deputies in March 2020.

Leading those sentenced to death are Parliament Speaker Sultan al-Barakani, Abdulaziz Jabbari, Amin al-Akimi and Lieutenant General Saghir bin Aziz.

With these provisions, the number of deputies who were sentenced, by default, by illegal courts run by the Houthi militia becomes 46.

The number of death sentences issued by the Houthi militia since 2017, according to SAM, is estimated at 200 death sentences, all of them in cases of a political nature, in addition to the fact that there are more than 50 civilians awaiting trial in absurdity.

The sentences affected military, men and women activists, politicians and journalists.

According to the minutes signed at the beginning of the first session, 138 members attended the House of Representatives sessions that were held in the city of Seiyun, which provoked the militia. 36 members, so the quorum here is complete with half the number plus one, which is 134 members, instead of 156.

For various reasons, about 15 members were absent from her, most notably: Ahmed Al-Kahlani, Hammoud Khaled Al-Sufi, Nabil Pasha, Ibrahim Al-Muzallam, Ali Al-Lahbi, Hussein Al-Ahmar, Suhaib Hammoud Al-Sufi, Sinan Al-Ajji, Nasser Bajil, Ahmed Qabou`, Ahmed Soufan, Abdullah Badr Al-Din, Abdul Wassa Hayel, Abdo Muhammad Saeed, Ahmed Al-Kuwaiti.

According to MP Abd al-Rahman Moazeb, a member of the council in the 114th district of Ibb governorate, the number of the dead has reached 49 to date, while those who attended Siyun sessions were 143, and those who are still in Sana'a are about 97 members and the rest are neutral.

It is noteworthy that in April 2019, Sheikh Sultan al-Barakani was elected Speaker of Parliament, and 3 deputies to the Speaker were also chosen: Muhammad al-Shaddadi, Abdulaziz Jabari, and Mohsen Basurrah.
