The prices of oil derivatives on the black market in Sanaa and the neighboring provinces have jumped to (15) thousand riyals for a 20-liter of petrol, in the features of a new stifling crisis of oil derivatives that has been repeated from time to time since the coup of the Houthi militia - the Iranian arm in Yemen - in September 2014.
In the past few days, the prices of basic foodstuffs increased in varying proportions, and these successive increases in the prices of oil derivatives (black market) and foodstuffs came days after the US State Department approved the designation of the Houthi militia as a terrorist group.
According to residents in Sanaa who spoke to (NewsYemen), a bag of wheat flour rose by 50 kilograms to 13,000 riyals, an increase of more than a thousand riyals from the previous price, while a bag of rice reached more than 18,000 riyals.
The price of egg pack has increased during the past few days from 1,700 riyals to 2,100 riyals, while the prices of yogurt and dairy have increased in varying proportions.
These price doses come in light of the Houthi militia’s continued plundering of the salaries of state employees and the public and mixed sectors since September 2016.
Activists on social networks believe that the Houthi militia is trying, with these price doses, to gain international support, by reversing the decision to designate it a terrorist group, by punishing citizens in their areas of collective control.
