Mocha, NewsYemen, Exclusive:

Workers in health centers in the districts of Dhu Bab and Mocha have complained that an international humanitarian organization operating in the West Coast provided expired and damaged medicines, which deprives patients of the right to benefit from them.

A source told NewsYemen that the International Family Health Organization (FHI) is contracting with unknown pharmaceutical companies to supply some centers, but their arrival is usually days before their expiration date, in a behavior around which vague suspicions of corruption revolve.

He stated that two health centers in the districts of Mocha and Dhu Bab destroyed quantities of medicines a few days ago, due to the expiration of their validity period, or they are medicines unknown to doctors who are avoiding dispensing them to patients, for fear of unforeseen complications.

The source suggested that the organization is suspected of being involved in corruption deals to market expired and unknown products, in exchange for spending thousands of dollars under the clause of buying medicines that do not benefit poor patients, who are in dire need of them, in remote areas of the West Coast.

On the other hand, workers in a health center complained that the organization deducted 50% of the incentive amounts it gives to government employees in the health sector, and 25% for workers in remote areas.

The source told NewsYemen that those in charge of the organization usually delay in providing the needs of the health centers, and that what they provide comes only hard.

The source called on the health bureaus in Mocha and Dhu Bab, and the responsible authorities, to open an investigation into the organization’s activities.

The International Family Health Organization is active in health care, education, nutrition, environment and economic development programs.
