Al-Houthi searches the markets of Taiz and arrests those who deal with the new editions of the riyal

The Houthi militia, the Iranian arm in Yemen, has resumed a campaign of widespread kidnapping of a group of merchants and sellers of qat in the areas under its control in the city of Taiz.

According to the sources that spoke to NewsYemen, the Houthi militia imposed arbitrary measures against traders and sellers, by permanently banning the circulation of the new currency and confiscating what is found of it among citizens and merchants.

The sources indicated that the militia launched campaigns in which a number of merchants and shop owners were kidnapped, and their shops were closed, in Ahouban, Damanah, Al Rahadah, Al Rabeei and Al Khashbah area because of their circulation of the new currency.

The sources indicated that the militia imposed on merchants to pay a fine in the old currency, in exchange for their release.

The militia also demanded from merchants pledges not to return to circulation of the new national currency.

The militia took a number of qat vendors in Al-Zindani market in Al-Khashbah to Al-Saleh prison, after confiscating all the money in their possession.

According to the sources, the militia members launched a surprise inspection campaign that they carried out in the market to verify the extent of the sellers ’compliance with their directives, which prohibit dealing with the new edition of local currency.

The actions and practices of Iran's arm are part of organized campaigns that have been intensified by the militia in recent times, to search vendors, markets, merchants, companies and factories in its areas of control and confiscate all amounts in the new edition of the currency.
