Aden, NewsYemen:

The United Nations said that more than 16 million people - more than half of Yemen's population - will face a food insecurity crisis by mid-2021, according to what was reported by "Voice of America."

"Yemen is starving again," Mark Lowcock, the United Nations humanitarian coordinator, said on Thursday at a meeting of donors.

The World Food Program confirmed that $ 1.9 billion is needed to avoid famine next year, despite the World Food Program awarding the Nobel Peace Prize, Thursday, for its work to eradicate hunger.

This year, UN agencies received about half of the money they received in 2019, and as a result, UN officials have already made the difficult decision to cut food rations to 9 million people and halt some important programs.

This decision coincides with the high price of the dollar against the Yemeni riyal, which collapsed to its lowest levels since the revolution of September 26, 1962, which exacerbated the suffering of citizens due to the insane rise in food prices and the necessary living requirements.

In addition, the UN decision to cut food aid to 9 million Yemenis will exacerbate the suffering coinciding with the onset of the winter season, and it is certain that the most affected groups will be the displaced Yemenis in a country that has been suffering from the scourge of war for five years.

Activists and specialized international organizations warn of a famine threatening Yemen, "It may be the largest famine in history if it is not the first."

The head of the United Nations Children's Fund, "UNICEF," described the life of Yemeni children as a "waking nightmare."

Stressing that 12 million people in Yemen need urgent food aid, noting that two million Yemenis are currently suffering from acute malnutrition, and this is what prompted the United Nations to issue official data confirming that the famine in Yemen has already begun.
